Taking Care of Your Soles

Feet contain a quarter of the bones in the entire body.  Every step you take requires your foot to withstand stress that equals about 120 percent of your body weight. They are the powerhouses for keeping us grounded, balanced, and moving us forward. Put your best foot forward with these 4 moves:

Warm up: Wiggle, circle, point and flex.

Leg Swing: Hold on to the wall (or balance on one foot). Swing your leg back and forth, then side-to-side. Repeat on other leg. This will improve balance and strengthens the ankles.

Calf Stretch: Stand up, stretch one foot out into front of you and lift toes off foot. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat on other side. This helps relax the Achilles tendon.

Tiptoe and heel: Walk on your tiptoes for 30 seconds, then heels for 30 seconds. Repeat two or three times. This works the muscles in the front and back of the feet.

Take it a step further and treat yourself to reflexology or a foot massage. After all, they do deserve a little respect.
